A Good Swimming Pool Pump Is Essential

Probably one of the most important pieces of equipment you will own for your pool is the swimming pool pump. This is because it controls the clarity and cleanliness of your water. Without the pump, water does not circulate through the filter and, in many cases, through the heater. Without both your water will be cold and dirty.

The key to using the right swimming pool pump for your installation will be whether your pool is above ground or inground and how high the water has to be pumped to reach the filter. An inground pump will tend to work a little harder than one located above ground and many installers recommend a pump rated slightly higher than the one you actually need. By choosing a pool pump bigger than needed, they tend to not work as hard and last longer.

One stipulation in any type of swimming pool pump you have is that it should allow easy access to the debris basket for easy, daily cleaning. Allowing debris to build up can be detrimental to your pumps operating ability and will also reduce the amount of water flowing into the filter.

Keep Swimming Pool Maintence Units Together

Ideally, an above ground swimming pool pump should be located adjacent to the filtering system and the heater to make daily maintenance more convenient. If the units are in different locations, there may be a tendency to forget one or another a day or so, which could cause you to miss a sign of impending trouble. All gauges on swimming pool pumps should also be checked periodically to insure proper operation.

Keeping your pump maintained according to the manufacturers recommendation will not only help assure it lasts as long as it is supposed to, but will also keep the warranty in force. Properly oiling and applying grease to fittings can keep it maintained and in good working order. There is no reason to have a pool you cannot use because you did not maintain the swimming pool pump properly and now you have to wait for a new one to arrive and be replaced.

A majority of swimming pool pumps can be replaced by the homeowner, along with a little mechanical knowledge and most companies will ship overnight so you do not lose more than a day or two of using your pool. However, there may be a few companies in your area that can offer same-day service should you need it.
